BESIDE THE MIDNIGHT LAKE @ KMCAP
ANNIE MACDONELL

July 15-August 8 2010

We are pleased to present Beside the midnight lake, an exhibition by Annie MacDonell, at our 1082 Queen Street West gallery in Toronto.

Working with film, photography, sculpture and installation, Annie MacDonell adopts and reanimates exhausted matter in the belief that its exhaustion generates an enhanced significance at other levels. "Beside the midnight lake" gathers a range of new work in different media, taking for its subject the place of landscape within current art practices, or rather the impossibility of the continued relevance of one within the shifting climate of the other. The show uses photo-collage, mirrored plinths, and flashing marquee lights to refract and reflect a range of references, from the cool blankness of minimalism to the dark inks and double suns of twentieth century pop Occultism.
