After receiving her Masters in painting, Kirsten began experimenting with paper sculptures in the late 1990s in a San Francisco loft where an abundance of space gave way to voluminous organisms that spiraled from ceiling to floor. Today, her extraordinary cut-paper sculptures are more intricate: worlds created from tiny scraps from magazines that invite you to take a step closer, and closer still. She received her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute and a BFA from Parsons. Kindler is a two-time recipient of the Professional Fellowship Award in Mixed Media from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Kindler’s work has exhibited widely, last year she was included in a cut paper exhibition at The Museum Bellerive in Zurich. She has an upcoming solo show at The Virginia Center for Architecture in Richmond, Virginia where she currently resides.
